The Painted Hills Vacation – Cottages & Retreat is family owned and operated by Barbara and Aruna Jacobi, a dynamic mother/daughter team. Natives of Germany, the Jacobi family has been living in the U.S. for almost 30 years.
After running a successful restaurant in Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market for ten years, the Jacobi family felt that it was time for a change and, after much traveling, fell in love with Eastern Oregon. After settling in the small town of Mitchell, the family spent years remodeling 2 old houses inside and out, transforming them into works of art. Barbara, a writer and master gardener, created the beautiful gardens connecting the properties with many magic nooks and crannies. In 2008, Painted Hills Vacation was officially born.
